Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack on Borno Town, Normalcy Restored
Troops of the North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), successfu redlly repelled an attack by Boko Haram terrorists in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State, chasing the insurgents out of the community.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when the assailants sneaked into the town, immediately beginning to burn down houses and vehicles, including one belonging to a member of the Civilian JTF.
However, security forces responded swiftly. The Executive Chairman of Magumeri, Hon. Abubakar Abdulkadir Yaro, confirmed the incident and praised the timely reaction of the security team.“The terrorists fled out of the town at about 3:am on Sunday after they were overwhelmed.
Unfortunately, they set ablaze residential houses and other property. But no life was lost.”
He specifically commended the combined efforts of the “gallant troops and members of Civilian JTF, Hunters and Volunteers,” noting that normalcy is now gradually returning to the town.
The successful defense of Magumeri comes amid an intensified period of attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP on both military and civilian targets across Borno, which recently resulted in the loss of two commanding officers in Bama and Damboa local government areas.
Following weeklong visits by the Army and Air Force Chiefs to the theatre of operation, a change of coordinated strategy was reportedly adopted to counter the terrorists.
Troops on the ground have assured the top military brass of their commitment to protecting lives and property, while the military leadership has, in turn, promised to improve the welfare of frontline troops.
