Zamfara Government Sets Up Committee to Integrate Health College into New Medical University
The Zamfara State Government has inaugurated a transition committee to facilitate the seamless integration of the College of Health Sciences and Technology (CHST), Tsafe, into the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology (FUHST), Tsafe.
Governor Dauda Lawal announced the initiative as part of efforts to ensure the smooth take-off of the University.
The committee is tasked with overseeing the transfer of facilities, integrating existing students, and assessing eligible staff for absorption into the University system.
Speaking on the development, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, stated that the committee will review and verify the academic status, transcripts, and programme structures of current students.
Recommendations will be made in line with the requirements of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the policies of the University.
The committee will also evaluate the qualifications, ranks, and experience of staff to determine their suitability for incorporation into the University, in accordance with FUHST’s conditions of service and NUC staffing standards.
In addition, the committee is expected to propose adequate land for the University’s future expansion and examine the feasibility of relocating the College of Health Sciences and Technology to a more suitable location within the state.
The move underscores the Zamfara State Government’s commitment to expanding access to quality health education, improving academic standards, and strengthening the state’s capacity to produce skilled healthcare professionals.
