APC, PDP Governors Storm Adamawa as Fintiri Unveils Margi Cultural Attire

Governors from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday converged on Yola, the Adamawa State capital, for the official unveiling of the new Margi national attire, a cultural symbol of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s ethnic heritage.

The event, held amid colourful cultural displays, drew political heavyweights, traditional rulers, and community leaders from across the region.

The Margi people, who largely inhabit parts of Borno State and extend into neighbouring Cameroon, described the unveiling as a major step toward preserving and promoting their identity.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, praised Fintiri for championing cultural pride and fostering unity across political divides. He described the Adamawa governor as “a bridge builder across the River Niger,” noting that cultural identity remains a vital element of national cohesion.

“A people without identity is a lost ethnic group,” Mohammed said. “Our democracy can only thrive when we embrace unity across religious, ethnic, and political lines. Unity brings peace, and peace brings development. As politicians, we must always encourage peace by doing the right and lawful thing.”

Mohammed further urged leaders nationwide to prioritise the welfare of citizens, stressing that true democracy cannot flourish without the people at its core.

Also speaking, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde commended Fintiri for what he described as “wonderful work and people-oriented projects” across Adamawa. He called on residents to continue supporting the governor irrespective of political affiliation.

Makinde noted that the large turnout of governors from different political parties reflected Fintiri’s reputation as a unifying leader whose developmental efforts speak across party lines.

The unveiling of the Margi attire marks a renewed effort by the Adamawa government to promote indigenous culture, strengthen unity, and showcase the state’s cultural diversity on a national stage.
