We’ve Not Ordered Nationwide Closure of Schools, Clarifies FG
The Federal Ministry of Education has publicly denied issuing any directive for a nationwide shutdown of schools on November 24, 2025.
The Ministry stated that a report circulating on social media claiming a total closure is false and misleading.
In a statement signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, the Ministry confirmed that the circulating report did not originate from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognized security agency.
The Ministry urged the public to rely strictly on verified information from official channels and to ignore and avoid sharing announcements from unverified sources to curb the spread of misinformation.
The clarification follows a decision by the Federal Government on Friday to order the closure of 41 federal secondary schools located specifically in high-risk areas, particularly following a recent spate of abductions in Niger and Kebbi States.
Additionally, several state governments have taken independent actions regarding school security:
* States including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, and Niger had already shut down schools amid rising insecurity concerns.
* Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, directed all public and private schools to deboard their students with immediate effect.
The Ministry’s current disclaimer focuses on the widespread misinformation regarding a nationwide closure mandate.
