Army Chief Visits Wounded Personnel, Reaffirms Commitment to Improved Medical Care

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Friday visited soldiers injured in ongoing military operations who are receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.

The visit, detailed in a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, formed part of the COAS’s first operational tour of the Joint Task Force North West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

According to the statement, General Shaibu commended the injured troops for their bravery and the sacrifices they made during combat. He assured them that the Nigerian Army remains firmly committed to ensuring they receive comprehensive medical attention and the necessary support for full recovery.

Speaking during the visit, the Army Chief reflected on his own past experience at the same hospital, recalling that he was once treated there after sustaining injuries during an operation. He said this personal history gives him a deep understanding of the difficulties wounded personnel face. Shaibu expressed strong confidence in the facility’s level of care, stressing that the hospital’s management and staff continue to maintain high standards.

He encouraged the recuperating troops to follow their treatment plans meticulously and reiterated his dedication to enhancing the welfare of soldiers and their families under his leadership.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also praised the Medical Director, Brigadier General Godwin Ogoh, alongside the officers, soldiers and civilian staff of the hospital, for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to saving lives.

Accompanied by senior officers from Army Headquarters, he also inspected ongoing upgrades and developments within the hospital.

As part of his continuing operational assessment, the COAS later visited Headquarters Sub-Sector 4 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA along the Kaduna–Abuja Highway, where he interacted with deployed troops and reviewed their combat readiness and morale.
