Hundreds of APC Members, Supporters Defect to PDP in Jigawa State

In a dramatic political shift, 573 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Jigawa State formally joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a high-profile ceremony held in Sabuwar Dan Masara, Dutse.

The group, led by Mustapha Adamu, expressed deep frustration with the APC’s governance and claimed the party no longer prioritizes the needs of its members.

Adamu said their defection results from mounting economic hardship and a desire for “positive change” that they believe the PDP is better positioned to deliver.

He accused APC leaders of failing to uphold fairness and justice, lamenting a lack of internal cohesion and meaningful inclusion for grassroots members.

Many defectors felt abandoned, their voices unheard, their needs neglected.

Welcoming the defectors, the Deputy Chairman of Jigawa PDP, Umar Danjani, described their move as a “significant boost” to the party’s strength in the state.

Danjani praised their courage and urged other disillusioned APC members to follow their example, emphasizing that the PDP stands for development and collective progress.

This latest exodus comes amid growing concern over APC’s popularity in the northwestern state, as the opposition seeks to consolidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the defectors, the PDP’s vision for Jigawa aligns more closely with their own aspirations.

They expressed optimism that by joining the PDP, they can more effectively contribute to governance reforms and community development.

Political analysts note that such mass defections reflect broader dissatisfaction among APC grassroots supporters, particularly around issues such as economic hardship, unemployment, and poor social services.

By welcoming such a sizeable group, the PDP may be positioning itself as a credible alternative in Jigawa.

Meanwhile, the defection has not only strengthened PDP’s numbers but also raised critical questions about APC’s internal cohesion and its ability to maintain support in key states.

Whether this realignment will translate into electoral gains remains to be seen, but for now, PDP appears to be gaining momentum in Jigawa’s political landscape.
