Rejig Your Cabinet Over Insecurity Atoyebi Urges President Tinubu
The BAT Ideological Group has called on President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action following recent violent incidents, including the kidnapping of 24 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga town in Kebbi State; the abduction of 52 pupils from St. Mary’s School, Papiri, Agwara LGA, Niger State; an attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun in Eruku town, Kwara State; and the abduction of four farmers during a raid in Bokungi village, Edu LGA, Kwara State, which also left two farmers dead.
Speaking to journalists, the convener of BAT Ideological Group, Bamidele Atoyebi, expressed concern that President Tinubu is “fighting the battle alone.” According to him, the president’s appointees in key positions have largely failed to implement his vision, with more than 80 percent of the cabinet falling short of the ideological goals set for the administration.
“At this rate, the president is left to shoulder the burden of leadership without adequate support from his team,” Atoyebi said. “BAT Ideological Group urges the president to restructure his administration, placing people who align with his vision and ideology in critical positions.”
He further recommended periodic training for political appointees and governors to ensure efficient execution of their duties. Atoyebi also stressed the importance of utilizing local security measures, noting that community-based personnel are more familiar with their terrain than deployed soldiers.
“Some may argue that legislative measures are needed, but given the urgency of these security threats, immediate action must be taken,” he said. “The president should direct local government chairmen to recruit forest guards to protect communities, particularly in areas facing grave security threats. These personnel can undergo training with the military while awaiting formal legislative approval, and certain constitutional provisions may need temporary suspension in the interest of national security.”
Atoyebi concluded by urging President Tinubu to summon local government chairmen to Abuja to provide strict directives on establishing forest guard units tailored to the specific needs of their communities.
