Power Restored in Jigawa Communities After 16-Years Blackout

Residents of Taura and Kwalam communities in Jigawa State are celebrating the restoration of electricity after enduring a complete blackout for over 16 years.

The lack of power had severely crippled small businesses, increased the cost of living, and limited access to essential services like potable water, healthcare, and communication facilities.

The restoration of power, described by some residents as a historic moment, was officially launched by Governor Umar Namadi during a Citizens Engagement Forum in Taura.

The Governor confirmed that this initiative fulfills one of his major campaign promises to reconnect 104 communities with a stable power supply in the Ringim and Taura local government areas.

Governor Namadi emphasized that rural and urban electrification is a key component of his administration’s broader agenda, aimed at:

* Improving energy access.

* Stimulating economic growth.

* Reducing rural-urban migration.

The Commissioner of Power and Energy, Surajo A. Musa, confirmed that the state government has made significant investments in rehabilitating old lines, replacing damaged transformers, and upgrading distribution networks to ensure a stable and sustainable electricity supply.

He urged the benefiting communities to take full ownership of the project to ensure its longevity.
