I’m Not Part of Motion for Wike’s Expulsion from PDP, Says Mutfwang
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has clarified his position on the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), distancing himself from calls to expel former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and other senior party members.
In a recent statement, Mutfwang described the proposal to expel Wike, Samuel Anyanwu, and Ayo Fayose as “ill-timed” and warned that punitive measures could further deepen internal divisions within the party.
He emphasized that unity, dialogue, and strategic engagement are more effective ways to address PDP’s challenges than resorting to expulsions.
The governor noted that the party’s stability and effectiveness depend on inclusive decision-making, urging all stakeholders to prioritize reconciliation over retribution.
According to him, the party’s strength lies in its ability to accommodate differing perspectives while working toward common goals.
Mutfwang’s remarks come amid mounting tension within PDP, where some party members have accused Wike of anti-party activities and sought his removal from the party.
Wike, however, has previously cautioned that sidelining him could threaten the party’s cohesion and electoral prospects, highlighting the delicate balance the party faces ahead of future elections.
By taking a stand against the expulsion motion, Mutfwang positions himself as a voice of moderation within PDP, advocating for dialogue and collaboration as the pathway to resolving internal conflicts.
His stance underscores the ongoing debate over leadership, loyalty, and unity in Nigeria’s main opposition party.
