Diri Presents N998.37bn 2026 Budget to Bayelsa Assembly

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Thursday presented a budget estimate of N998.37 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly in Yenagoa.

The appropriation bill, tagged “Assured Prosperity II,” is designed to build on the gains of previous years and reaffirm the administration’s commitment to inclusive development, fiscal discipline, and transparent governance.

Governor Diri, while presenting the proposal before lawmakers, explained that the 2026 budget places strong emphasis on infrastructure and human capital development as part of his administration’s vision of achieving sustainable growth and economic diversification.

He said the budget reflects the government’s determination to consolidate ongoing projects and initiate new ones aimed at improving the living standards of Bayelsans.

According to him, the fiscal plan also prioritizes prudent management of public funds and enhanced revenue generation to reduce dependence on federal allocations.

Diri disclosed that the budget would be funded through several revenue sources, including statutory allocation estimated at N42.2 billion, Value Added Tax (VAT) of N84 billion, 13 percent derivation funds amounting to N212.6 billion, and other FAAC allocations totaling about N488 billion, in addition to internally generated revenue and other receipts.

The governor emphasized that the 2026 fiscal plan was carefully structured to sustain ongoing infrastructural works across the state, boost education, healthcare, and youth empowerment, and further strengthen the state’s economy.

Receiving the proposal, Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, commended Governor Diri for his administration’s commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility.

He assured that the Assembly would give the budget expeditious and thorough consideration to ensure its early passage.

The 2026 “Assured Prosperity II” budget marks a continuation of Diri’s development agenda aimed at consolidating his administration’s achievements and steering Bayelsa State toward greater prosperity.
