Tinubu Approves Inclusion of Two Major Ekiti Roads in 2026 Federal Budget
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the inclusion of two key road projects in Ekiti State — the Itawure–Aramoko–Ado Ekiti Road and the Aramoko–Ijero–Ifaki Ekiti Road — in the proposed 2026 Federal Government budget.
The approval, which was formally communicated to the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, followed a high-level discussion between President Tinubu, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting centered on the poor state of federal roads within Ekiti and the urgent need for reconstruction to boost transportation, trade, and development.
Governor Oyebanji, who confirmed the development through his Special Adviser on Media, expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for the gesture, describing it as a significant relief to motorists and residents who have endured hardship due to the deplorable condition of the affected routes.
According to him, the move aligns with the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure and connectivity as tools for national development.
He added that the road projects, once completed, would open up the state for greater economic activities, reduce travel time, and improve the movement of goods and agricultural produce.
“These roads are vital links connecting several communities and facilitating economic exchange between Ekiti and neighboring states. Mr. President’s approval is not just a show of goodwill to our people, but a major boost to regional development,” Oyebanji stated.
The governor also commended Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele for his consistent advocacy for federal attention to Ekiti’s infrastructure needs, noting that the collaboration between the state and the federal government continues to yield tangible results.
The approved projects are expected to be captured in the 2026 federal budget for implementation under the Ministry of Works. Preliminary design and cost assessments are already being reviewed by the ministry, with construction expected to commence after the budget’s passage.
Residents and community leaders across Ekiti have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the long-neglected roads, which have caused frequent accidents and hindered commerce, will finally receive the attention they deserve.
The Itawure–Aramoko–Ado Ekiti and Aramoko–Ijero–Ifaki routes are among the busiest federal roads in the state, serving as key transport arteries for trade, agriculture, and inter-community travel. The projects are projected to significantly enhance connectivity and economic productivity once completed.
With the approval, the Tinubu administration has reaffirmed its commitment to balanced infrastructure development and the promotion of equitable growth across all states, in line with the national infrastructure renewal drive.
