Ex-Convict Stabs Police Officer in Failed Bid to Snatch AK-47

Tension gripped the Panseke area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, when an ex-convict launched a violent attack on a police officer in an attempt to seize his AK-47 rifle.

The incident, which occurred in the busy commercial district, caused panic among residents and traders as the situation quickly escalated into chaos.

According to eyewitnesses, the ex-convict, who was recently released from prison, approached a team of police officers on patrol and suddenly attempted to wrestle one of them for his weapon.

In the process, he stabbed the officer with a sharp object, inflicting serious injuries before being subdued by other operatives.

The wounded officer was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the suspect was overpowered and arrested after a brief struggle.

His attempt to escape the scene was thwarted by the quick response of reinforcement units who arrived shortly after the altercation began.

Residents described the moment as terrifying, noting that many people fled the area in fear of gunfire or retaliation. “It was a shocking scene. People were running everywhere when they saw the officer bleeding,” a trader recounted.

Police authorities have since restored calm to the area and confirmed that the suspect is in custody.

Preliminary findings indicate that the attacker had a record of violent offenses and had been recently released from correctional custody.

The Ogun State Police Command is expected to provide further details on the incident, including the officer’s recovery status and possible charges to be filed against the suspect.

Security has been strengthened in Panseke and surrounding areas as part of efforts to prevent similar occurrences and ensure the safety of residents and commuters.
