Fintiri Urges Adamawa Youths to Blend Qur’anic, Western Education
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has called on youths in Adamawa State’s Qur’anic schools to also embrace Western education as the essential path to living a balanced life and making meaningful contributions to national development.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 40th Adamawa State Annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition held at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola, Fintiri praised the participants for their dedication to the Holy Qur’an and the preservation of Islamic values.
However, he strongly advised them to broaden their knowledge for maximum impact.
The Governor’s message, delivered by the Commissioner for Housing Development, Abdullahi Prambe, challenged the prevailing trend in the North where youths often receive only Islamic education, which can leave them unqualified for modern white-collar or professional jobs.
Governor Fintiri emphasized that the state’s educational landscape now actively provides opportunities for young people to combine Qur’anic scholarship with Western education, noting that many institutions in Adamawa effectively integrate both systems.
“Our youths must seize this dual opportunity. Knowledge of the Qur’an enriches the soul, while Western education equips the mind — together, they build the future of our state,” Fintiri stated.
The event concluded with the overall winner of the Qur’anic recitation contest, Ahmed Abdulqadir of Yola South, pledging to represent Adamawa proudly at the upcoming national competition, which will be held in Borno State in the coming weeks.
