Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, today embarked on a visit to Ondo State, accompanied by the wives of 17 state governors.

The visit is part of her ongoing national tour aimed at boosting healthcare delivery and women empowerment across the country.

The delegation was warmly welcomed in Akure by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and other top government officials. The visit marks a significant moment in the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative, with a key focus on improving maternal and child healthcare in the South-West.

As part of today’s engagements, The first lady Oluremi Tinubu officially launched the distribution of professional kits to over 10,000 nurses and midwives in the region.

The initiative is designed to enhance the capacity of frontline health workers and improve service delivery at the grassroots.

“Midwives and nurses are the silent heroes of our healthcare system,” the First Lady said. “Empowering them means empowering the health and future of our communities.”

The day also featured the rollout of two major health campaigns  the Triple Elimination Initiative targeting HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis, and the Free to Shine Campaign, focused on eliminating mother-to-child transmission of diseases.

In a solemn moment during the visit, the first lady Oluremi Tinubu paid a condolence visit to the widow of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, offering words of comfort and acknowledging his legacy of service and courage.

“His leadership was felt not just in Ondo, but across the nation,” she said.

The First Lady was joined by First Ladies from Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun, and several other states, presenting a united front in addressing key social issues affecting women and children nationwide.

Observers say the visit not only highlights the administration’s commitment to health sector reform but also builds momentum for collaboration among states in delivering people-centered programs.

The delegation is expected to continue engagements tomorrow with visits to local health facilities and meetings with women groups and community leaders before concluding the tour.
