APC’s Ukachukwu Decries Vote Buying, Intimidation in Anambra Governorship Poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the ongoing 2025 Anambra governorship election, Nicholas Ukachukwu, has raised concerns over alleged vote buying and harassment of his party’s agents across the state.

Ukachukwu, who cast his vote at Osumenyi Ward 2, Polling Unit 012, described the situation as a major setback for Nigeria’s democratic progress. “If there’s no seller, there can’t be a buyer,” the APC flagbearer said after voting. “Some people have chosen to trade their conscience, which is even more troubling than those buying votes. Once you sell your right for money, you surrender your voice as a citizen. Later complaints won’t change anything—society must take the blame for enabling this.”

The APC candidate further alleged that some of his agents were attacked during the voting process.

“We’ve witnessed incidents where people are being beaten up. It’s a form of intimidation and bullying. While it may seem acceptable to some today, power is transient—God gives authority to whomever He wills,” Ukachukwu stated.

Commenting on the security situation in Ihiala, one of the identified election flashpoints, Ukachukwu noted that voting had remained relatively peaceful. “So far, there have been no reports of deaths or major disturbances,” he said. “Tensions are expected during elections, but at this moment, the atmosphere remains largely calm.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to oversee voting across Anambra State, with security agencies maintaining a visible presence to ensure a smooth and credible process.
