I’m a Muslim, My Wife’s a Pastor — Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Religious Freedom
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his belief in freedom of religion, stressing that faith should be a source of unity rather than division among Nigerians.
Speaking in Jos, Plateau State, during a national interfaith gathering on Thursday, President Tinubu said his personal life reflects Nigeria’s diversity, as he is a Muslim married to a Christian pastor.
He urged Nigerians to embrace tolerance, mutual respect, and love regardless of their religious affiliations.
“I believe in the freedom of religion. We are praying to the same God. We are answerable to the same Almighty God,” the President said.
We will answer to Him. We will account to Him. Our deeds, our character, and our love for our fellow beings are what truly matter.”
Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity, adding that citizens must reject all forms of religious intolerance and extremism.
He noted that genuine faith should inspire compassion, honesty, and service to humanity rather than division.
“That’s it, the method and the faith of Fatima. What matters most is our sincerity and our good works toward one another,” he added, drawing applause from the audience.
The President’s remarks come at a time when calls for national unity and interreligious understanding have intensified across the country, particularly in regions affected by communal tensions.
Religious leaders present at the event commended Tinubu for leading by example and for his inclusive approach to governance.
They described his statement as a powerful reminder that faith, when rightly practiced, can be a bridge to peace and national cohesion.
