Nigerian Army Repels Boko Haram, ISWAP Attack in Borno, Kill Six Terrorists

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled a coordinated attack launched by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on their base in Mallam Fatori, Borno State.

According to military sources, the insurgents attempted to breach the defensive lines of the army formation in the early hours of Wednesday, engaging troops in a fierce gun battle. However, the soldiers displayed superior firepower and tactical coordination, forcing the terrorists to retreat after suffering heavy losses.

Intelligence reports indicated that the terrorists had mobilised from nearby hideouts around the Lake Chad region before attempting to overrun the military base.

In the ensuing confrontation, at least six of the attackers were neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Troops also recovered assorted weapons and ammunition from the scene, including AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, and motorcycles used by the insurgents.

A military source in Maiduguri, who confirmed the incident, commended the gallantry of the troops, adding that the army remains committed to eliminating the remnants of terrorist elements still operating in the North-East.

“The soldiers fought bravely and repelled the attack. The terrorists suffered serious casualties, and our men are fully in control of Mallam Fatori,” the source said.

Mallam Fatori, a border community near Niger Republic, has been a frequent target of insurgent assaults due to its strategic location and proximity to terrorist enclaves around the Lake Chad basin.

The latest success adds to a series of recent operational gains recorded by the Nigerian military as it intensifies counterterrorism efforts across Borno and other parts of the North-East.
