FG Inaugurates Digital Platform to Track Funding, Data in Tertiary Institutions for Transparency

The Federal Government has unveiled a new digital platform designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and data-driven decision-making across Nigeria’s higher education system.

The initiative, known as the Federal Government Tertiary Institution Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP), was officially launched on Tuesday by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to the education minister, the FTIGTP serves as a unified national database that provides real-time access to institutional data, including student enrolment, research funding, and interventions by agencies such as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Prof. Mamman said the project, which coincides with his first anniversary in office, represents a major reform in governance within the education sector.

“When we began this journey a year ago, many institutions were reluctant to share their data. Today, that has changed — our institutions are embracing transparency, and this platform now cements that progress as a national standard,” he said.

Beginning in 2026, all federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education will be required to submit verified institutional and financial data annually through the FTIGTP.

The minister warned that access to TETFund’s ICT allocations would be strictly tied to compliance.

“Every tertiary institution is expected to comply. We implore all institutions to share their data accurately and on time, as no institution will be eligible for TETFund ICT interventions without full data submission and clearance,” Mamman stated.

He described the platform as a key milestone in the government’s effort to restore public trust and ensure good governance in the education sector, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda focused on transparency and accountability.

In his goodwill message, Mr. Osita Chidoka, Chancellor of the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, commended the launch, describing the platform as “a timely and essential step toward transforming Nigeria’s tertiary education system.”

The launch was attended by vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, and senior education officials from across the country.

The FTIGTP portal can be accessed via transparency.education.gov.ng.
