Imo Police Boss Orders Investigation Into Viral Video of Elderly Woman Assaulted by 6 Men

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has ordered a full-scale investigation into a disturbing viral video showing an elderly woman being brutally assaulted by a group of six men in the Emekuku area of Owerri North Local Government Area.

The victim, identified as 55-year-old Mrs. Agu Ndidiamaka of Umuakaliukwu Kindred, Uboegbelu, Azaraubo, was reportedly attacked for allegedly cooperating with police officers who had earlier visited her community for investigative purposes.

The video, which surfaced on social media over the weekend, shows the woman being manhandled, beaten, and humiliated by her assailants, sparking widespread outrage from the public.

In a statement issued by the police spokesperson, the Commissioner described the act as “barbaric, inhuman, and totally unacceptable,” stressing that such behavior would not be tolerated in any part of the state.

He directed the command’s X-Squad Unit to immediately identify, arrest, and prosecute all those involved in the assault.

Preliminary investigations have identified the suspects as Osuji Chiazor, Agu Azubike, Njoku Onyedikachi, Njoku Eugene, Njoku Dikachi, Njoku Emmanuel, and Iwuala Chukwuma. The police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects, adding that those already in custody would face charges once the investigation is concluded.

The Commissioner further warned against acts of mob justice and intimidation, particularly against citizens who cooperate with law enforcement. “The Command will not tolerate any form of jungle justice or harassment of individuals who assist the police in lawful investigations,” the statement read.

The viral video has drawn condemnation from human rights advocates and community leaders, who called for justice and better protection for vulnerable persons. Advocacy groups have also urged the police to ensure the victim receives proper medical care and support following the ordeal.

The incident has reignited discussions around community safety and the growing problem of retaliatory violence in rural areas, where residents who aid police investigations are sometimes targeted by others. Observers note that the swift response from the police underscores both public pressure and the need to rebuild trust between security agencies and local communities.

As the investigation continues, the Imo State Police Command has appealed for calm, assuring the public that justice will be served and that those responsible for the assault will face the full weight of the law.
