Umahi Mandates Arab Contractors to Complete Enugu-Port Harcourt Express by November
The Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, has directed the construction firm, Arab Contractors, to ensure the completion of the remaining 4.5-kilometre section of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway in Abia State before the end of November 2025.
Umahi gave the directive on Friday during an inspection tour of the project in Aba, Abia State, where he expressed both satisfaction and concern over the pace of work.
The Minister commended the contractor for progress made so far but emphasised that the remaining stretch must be completed and opened to traffic within the stipulated period to ease movement along the vital South-East–South-South corridor.
“I have directed Arab Contractors to complete the outstanding 4.5 kilometres of this section by the end of November. Nigerians are eagerly waiting to see this critical road fully delivered, and there will be no further excuses,” Umahi said.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s determination under President Bola Tinubu’s administration to fast-track the completion of all ongoing highway projects across the country, noting that infrastructure development remains a major pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Umahi also urged contractors handling other sections of the expressway to maintain strict adherence to specifications and timelines, warning that any firm found wanting in quality delivery or speed of execution would face sanctions.
The Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, a major economic route linking several states in the South-East and South-South, has been under rehabilitation for several years. Its completion is expected to significantly boost trade, ease transportation, and enhance regional integration.
