Opebi-Mende Link Bridge for Flag-Off Before December, Assures Lagos Govt

The Lagos State Government has announced that the much-anticipated Opebi-Mende Link Bridge will be commissioned and opened for public use before the end of 2025.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, made the disclosure during an interactive session with members of the Lagos State Correspondents’ Chapel in Alausa, Ikeja, over the weekend.

Omotoso said the project, which is one of the major infrastructural undertakings of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, has reached its final stage, with only minor finishing works left before commissioning.

“All of the beautiful projects you see that we have started will be completed soon. The Opebi-Mende Link Bridge will be commissioned before the end of this year. What remains are finishing touches,” the commissioner stated.

He reaffirmed the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to delivering on its promises to Lagos residents, stressing that no project initiated by the government would be abandoned.

According to him, the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge is a strategic infrastructure designed to significantly reduce travel time for motorists and ease traffic congestion between Opebi, Ojota, and Maryland.

The bridge, when opened, will provide a crucial alternative route to the often-busy Opebi-Ojota corridor, improving connectivity and enhancing the city’s traffic management system.

Omotoso added that the Sanwo-Olu administration’s infrastructure drive is part of the broader THEMES+ agenda focusing on traffic management and transportation, health, education, technology, and good governance.

He also noted that other ongoing projects across the state, including the Red and Blue Line rail expansions, the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, and several urban renewal schemes, were at advanced stages of completion.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, are determined to make Lagos work for everyone. We are not just building roads and bridges, we are building connections that will improve lives and grow the economy,” Omotoso added.

The Opebi-Mende Link Bridge, which spans about 3.9 kilometres, is expected to serve as a major relief to motorists, particularly those commuting between Ikeja and the Third Mainland Bridge axis.

Residents and commuters have expressed optimism that the project’s completion will ease one of the city’s most notorious traffic bottlenecks, which has long hindered smooth vehicular movement in the area.

The bridge’s commissioning later this year will mark another milestone in Lagos’ continuous infrastructural transformation and reinforce the state’s status as Nigeria’s economic and commercial hub.
