Police Arrest Herbalist, Brother for Killing Client, Motorcyclist in Delta
The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old herbalist, Amechi Okwuokenye, and his 26-year-old brother, Smart Okwuokenye, over the alleged kidnapping and killing of two men in Owa-Alidima, in the Ika North East Local Government Area of the state.
The state command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday, confirming that the victims’ corpses had been recovered and deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.
According to the police, the incident began on September 30, 2025, when one of the victims, 22-year-old Friday Liberty, visited the herbalist for consultation but never returned home.
“It was a case of the hunter becoming the hunted, when on the 30th of September 2025, Mr. Friday Liberty, aged 22 years, visited his herbalist, whom he had known for some time now.
Unfortunately, he never returned,” Edafe said.
Following a missing person’s report filed by Liberty’s relatives, detectives from the Agbor Police Division launched an investigation, which eventually led to the arrest of the suspects. During interrogation, the herbalist and his brother allegedly confessed to luring the victim into their shrine, killing him, and secretly burying his remains.
The police spokesperson further revealed that the suspects also confessed to murdering another victim, a commercial motorcyclist whom they reportedly hired to convey them before taking his life and seizing his motorcycle.
“In the course of investigation, both suspects confessed to the crime and led operatives to the scene where the victims’ decomposing bodies were exhumed. The corpses have been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy,” Edafe added.
Recovered items included the deceased motorcyclist’s motorcycle, charms, and blood-stained clothing.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, condemned the heinous act and commended the operatives for their swift response. He assured that justice would be served and reiterated the command’s commitment to tracking down all criminal elements in the state.
“This incident is a grim reminder that evil thrives when people put their trust in wrong places. The Delta Police Command will continue to protect the lives and property of law-abiding citizens and ensure that those who engage in such barbaric acts face the full wrath of the law,” the CP stated.
The suspects, according to the police, remain in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
