NRC Restarts Warri–Itakpe Train Operations October 29 After Maintenance Break
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the resumption of operations on the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor, effective Tuesday, October 29, 2025.
The service, which had been temporarily suspended for maintenance, will restart following what the corporation described as “critical repairs, system checks, and rolling stock servicing” to ensure passenger safety, comfort, and reliability.
In a statement released on Sunday, the NRC management said the online ticket booking portal for the Warri Itakpe route will reopen at noon on Monday, October 27, ahead of the official resumption.
The initial operation will feature seven coaches six standard class and one business class while the corporation has introduced temporary speed restrictions for safety purposes.
“The Warri Itakpe Train Service will resume operations on October 29, 2025, following the successful completion of essential maintenance works on the track and coaches. Passengers are assured of improved services and safety standards,” the statement read in part.
The Warri Itakpe line, a major transport link between Delta, Edo, and Kogi states, had been suspended earlier in the year to allow for technical inspections and repairs after reported engine faults.
The resumption is expected to ease transportation challenges along the corridor and provide an affordable alternative for passengers and traders who rely on the route for regional mobility.
The NRC urged passengers to verify travel schedules and fares on its official channels as full operations resume next week.
