Nigeria Beat Samoa 4–0 to Reach U-17 Women’s World Cup Round of 16
Nigeria’s Flamingos stormed into the Round of 16 of the 2025 U-17 Women’s World Cup after thrashing Samoa 4–0 in a decisive group-stage encounter on Saturday.
Queen Joseph led the charge with a brace, while Azeezat Oduntan and captain Shakirat Moshood each found the net as Nigeria sealed their place among the tournament’s best third-placed teams.
Heading into the match, the Flamingos needed at least a two-goal margin to progress, a task they accomplished with style and precision in Morocco.
Joseph opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Moshood doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 27th minute after a VAR review.
Joseph struck again seven minutes later, finishing off a smart assist from Tabitha Terlumu to give Nigeria a 3–0 advantage at halftime.
Moshood nearly grabbed her second goal two minutes into the second half, but her penalty was saved by Samoan goalkeeper Grace Ae. Undeterred, Oduntan added a fourth goal in the 68th minute with a well-placed strike into the top corner.
The Flamingos continued to dominate possession and created several more scoring chances, though they were unable to add to their tally.
The 4–0 result gave Nigeria a +3 goal difference, ensuring progression from Group D behind Canada and France.
Canada topped the group after defeating France 2–1 in the day’s other fixture.
Nigeria will now face Korea DPR in the Round of 16 on Tuesday as they continue their campaign for a maiden World Cup title.
