Tinubu Changes Service Chiefs, Appoints Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff

President Bola Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, a move intended to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

The changes are effective immediately. At the top of the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede takes over as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), replacing the outgoing General Christopher Musa.

The new appointees filling the crucial leadership roles across the military branches are Major-General W. Shaibu as the Chief of Army Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS).

Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye will retain his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.

In announcing the changes, President Tinubu commended the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership.”

He charged the newly appointed leadership to “justify the confidence reposed in them” and to uphold the fundamental values of professionalism, vigilance, and unity that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
