Federal Government, Islamic Development Bank to Accelerate Completion of Key Road, Bridge Projects
The Federal Government has renewed its partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to accelerate the completion of strategic road and bridge projects across Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Legacy Projects.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced this commitment on Thursday in Abuja when he received a delegation from the IsDB Regional Hub in Nigeria led by the Team Leader, Operations, Ibrahim Chalive.
The meeting, according to a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry, Mohammed Ahmed, focused on deepening collaboration between the Ministries of Works, Finance, and the IsDB to fund and execute key national infrastructure projects.
Umahi said the Tinubu administration regards road infrastructure as central to Nigeria’s economic transformation and is determined to deliver projects transparently, innovatively, and cost-effectively.
“Infrastructure remains a major driver of economic growth. President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda accords high priority to road development as a catalyst for economic emancipation, job creation, and the smooth movement of goods and people nationwide,” he said.
The minister commended members of the National Assembly for supporting the government’s infrastructure development efforts, particularly in facilitating funding interventions aligned with the Renewed Hope projects.
Umahi also praised the Islamic Development Bank for its consistent investment in Nigeria’s infrastructure, describing the visit as a constructive step toward consolidating gains and expanding cooperation.
In his remarks, Chalive expressed satisfaction with the ministry’s ongoing reforms in engineering design, quality assurance, and project management. He assured that the bank remains committed to providing both financial and technical support to strengthen Nigeria’s infrastructure base.
Both parties agreed to set up a joint technical team to identify priority areas and develop a collaborative framework that guarantees transparency, accountability, and timely project delivery.
Umahi said the renewed partnership reflects the Federal Government’s determination to modernise the country’s road network and advance sustainable national development.
Also present at the meeting was the Special Assistant to the President on Stakeholders Engagement (South East), Barrister Chioma Nweze.
