Davido Named Chairman, Osun Sports Trust Fund to Revive State’s Sports Sector

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has appointed Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The appointment was announced on October 22, 2025, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, as part of the state government’s renewed efforts to reform and reposition the sports sector for sustainable development and private sector participation.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun State Chapter, the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports, disclosed that Davido accepted the appointment with enthusiasm and has expressed readiness to contribute to the growth of sports in the state.
According to the Deputy Governor, the establishment of the Sports Trust Fund marks a major step in the government’s plan to ensure transparent and independent financing for sports development across Osun. He added that the Trust Fund will support infrastructure upgrades, talent discovery, and youth engagement through various sporting activities.
The government also revealed plans to set up a State Sports Commission to coordinate sports policies and oversee implementation, while renovation works will soon begin at the Osogbo Township Stadium to bring it to international standards.
Prince Adewusi noted that Governor Adeleke’s administration remains committed to developing sports as a tool for youth empowerment, employment generation, and social unity across the state.
Davido’s appointment is expected to attract national and international attention to Osun’s sporting agenda, aligning with the governor’s vision of integrating entertainment and sports as viable economic drivers for the state.
