Madugu Unveils Star-Studded Super Falcons Squad For WAFCON Clash Against Benin Republic

Head coach of the Super Falcons, Justin Madugu, has released his final 21-player list for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Benin Republic, scheduled to take place later this month.

The squad, announced today by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), features a mix of regular stars and emerging talents, as Nigeria looks to maintain its dominance in women’s football on the continent.

Leading the team is captain Rasheedat Ajibade, joined by other key players such as Chiamaka Nnadozie, Michelle Alozie, Esther Okoronkwo, Toni Payne, and Uchenna Kanu. The coach also retained a few home-based players who impressed in previous outings, signaling his confidence in a balanced lineup.

According to the NFF, the first leg of the encounter will be held at the Stade Kégué in Lomé, Togo, as Benin Republic currently has no CAF-approved stadium. The return leg is billed for Abeokuta, Ogun State, on

October 28, 2025, at the MKO Abiola Stadium Complex.

Madugu said the players were carefully selected based on performance, fitness, and tactical readiness for the double-header.

“We have a mission to qualify convincingly and continue Nigeria’s proud record in African women’s football. Every player called up has earned her place and understands what’s at stake,” he stated.

The Falcons, nine-time African champions, will be aiming to secure an early qualification to next year’s WAFCON as part of their broader rebuilding project following their impressive showing at the last Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria qualified for this round after defeating São Tomé and Príncipe 7–0 on aggregate, and are expected to open camp in Abuja early next week before departing for Lomé.

The announcement has sparked excitement among fans, who see the squad list as a blend of experience and youth capable of delivering another strong continental campaign for the Super Falcons.
