Edun Convalescing in Abuja, Not Flown Abroad, No Replacement Plans, Clarifies Presidency

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, is recuperating at his Abuja residence after a brief illness, the Presidency confirmed on Sunday.

Contrary to reports suggesting that the minister suffered a stroke and was flown abroad, multiple government sources stated that Mr. Edun remains in Nigeria and is responding well to treatment.

“The Minister is fine and recovering in his Abuja home. There are no plans by President Bola Tinubu to replace him,” a senior Presidency official said.

Earlier, an online news platform had claimed that Edun had been flown abroad following a stroke and that the President was considering a replacement.

However, credible reports confirmed that the claims were false, describing them as mere speculation.

The Presidency also clarified that, due to his temporary indisposition, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C.

“The Finance Minister’s health is stable, and he will resume official duties as soon as his doctors advise. The public should disregard unfounded reports about his condition or any alleged replacement,” the statement added.

Mr. Edun, who oversees key aspects of President Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, has been a central figure in the administration’s fiscal policy direction since his appointment in 2023.
