Place Citizens’ Welfare First, Ex President Buhari Appeals to Leaders

Ex-President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to leaders to make the welfare of citizens their topmost priority.

He made the appeal while hosting governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his residence in Kaduna.

Buhari highlighted the necessity to take a people-centered leadership, which he believed is central to ushering the required development and progress of Nigeria’s growth.

Leadership, in his view, is both a challenge and opportunity and urged that the two must be balanced.

According to a statement by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s media adviser, the former president was hopeful about Nigeria’s leaders and urged them to put the people’s interests ahead of themselves.

He cited his own example, saying he left with the same physical belongings he arrived with before he was elected president, demonstrating that he was more concerned about serving the people than himself.

Buhari also eulogized President Bola Tinubu over the renovation of his Kaduna house, for being kind and thanked him for it. He also thanked governors, whose chairman is leader of the Progressive Governors’ Forum Hope Uzodimma, for visiting to see him in Kaduna State.

The call by the former president to put people’s well-being first is a timely reminder of the importance of leadership driven by prioritization of the people’s interests. As Nigeria marches on with its development, it is important that leaders adopt a people-oriented approach that addresses the challenges facing the country and its people.
