PDP Moves to Finalise Delegate List as Ibadan Convention Draws Near

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun compiling its list of delegates as preparations intensify for the crucial gathering billed for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, announced the development in Abuja on Monday during a meeting with members of the Protocol Subcommittee.
Fintiri said the process was designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and full participation of all aspirants in line with the party’s democratic values.
He assured that the exercise would not only reflect the will of members but also mark another milestone in the PDP’s rebuilding efforts.
“This convention will be a defining moment for our party,” he said. “We are determined to show Nigerians that the PDP remains a democratic institution capable of self-renewal. Everyone who has met the requirements will be given a fair chance to contest.”
He explained that the delegates’ compilation process would be open to scrutiny and that the list would be published ahead of the convention.
“We are finalising the names of delegates, and the process will be as transparent as the selection of our subcommittee members,” he added.
Fintiri, who spoke passionately about his long association with the PDP, described the party as a central pillar of his personal and political journey.
“Apart from Islam, the PDP is the next association that has given me everything I have achieved in life,” he said, adding that he would remain committed to ensuring the party’s success.
He maintained that the convention would produce a new crop of competent leaders capable of strengthening the PDP’s national relevance.
“We will not let this party down. The quality of leaders we will produce will convince Nigerians that the PDP is still very much alive,” he said.
According to him, the growing enthusiasm among members across states shows that confidence is returning to the opposition party. “Even our meetings now attract larger participation, which is a clear sign that life is returning to the PDP,” he noted.
Also speaking, Plateau State Governor and head of the Protocol Subcommittee, Caleb Mutfwang, said preparations for the convention had reached an advanced stage.
He described the Ibadan gathering as a symbolic step in repositioning the PDP ahead of future elections, stressing that effective organisation would determine the success of the event.
“Our task is to ensure that the entire process runs seamlessly,” he said. “Protocol is the backbone of any successful event. We must be in Ibadan early enough to coordinate logistics before delegates arrive.”
Mutfwang said the high level of mobilisation and commitment among members reflected the PDP’s resilience and readiness to reclaim its place as Nigeria’s leading opposition force.
“Those who founded this party would not want to see it fade away in our time. We have a collective duty to keep this platform alive for Nigerians who still look up to us for leadership,” he added.
Fintiri concluded with a rallying call for unity and sacrifice: “Let’s stay focused, ignore distractions, and work together. The PDP will emerge stronger and victorious in the end.”
