Nigerians Must Unite To End Insurgency, Says CDS Musa

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has called on Nigerians to unite in the fight against insurgency, stressing that military efforts alone cannot bring lasting peace to the country.

General Musa made the call during the closing ceremony of Exercise Haske Biyu held at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Kaduna State.

The event, which focused on family values and national security, brought together senior military officers, security experts, and community stakeholders.

He explained that while the Armed Forces remain committed to defending the nation, victory against terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes requires the active participation of citizens.

“Security is a collective responsibility. The military cannot succeed without the support of the people. Every Nigerian must play a role by providing information, discouraging youths from joining criminal groups, and promoting unity across ethnic and religious lines,” Musa said.

The Defence Chief stressed that insurgent groups thrive on division and misinformation, urging citizens to resist propaganda and work closely with security agencies. He also appealed to the media to report responsibly, noting that accurate information strengthens public confidence and undermines terrorist narratives.

Musa further noted that addressing insecurity goes beyond the battlefield, pointing out that good governance, economic empowerment, and the revival of family values are crucial in preventing criminal recruitment.

He assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces will continue to carry out their constitutional mandate but insisted that national unity remains the strongest weapon against insurgency.
