Jandor Declares 2027 Governorship Ambition, Reacts to Question on Seyi Tinubu

The 2023 Lagos governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has reaffirmed his ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election, stating that he is fully prepared to run under the All Progressives Congress (APC), his new political platform.

Jandor, who appeared on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, was asked whether he would be willing to step aside if Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, emerged as a contender in the race. In response, Jandor maintained that while Seyi Tinubu is “qualified to aspire, just like every other Lagosian,” he would remain in the race for 2027.

He, however, emphasized his commitment to party discipline, noting that if the APC eventually settles on another candidate, including Seyi Tinubu, he would work with the party’s choice in the spirit of unity.

“I am running, but as party men we all rally behind whoever emerges,” he stated.

The politician’s remarks highlight both his determination to pursue his long-standing ambition to govern Lagos and his attempt to reassure party leaders of his loyalty, especially after his dramatic defection from the PDP to the APC earlier this year.

Jandor, who met with President Tinubu shortly after rejoining the APC, said his move was driven by a belief in the president’s reforms and the APC’s viability ahead of the next general elections.

His return sparked speculation about his political future and possible alliances, making his stance on the Seyi Tinubu question a matter of keen public interest.

While some political watchers see Jandor’s comments as an expression of loyalty to the party hierarchy, others interpret it as a balancing act to keep his ambition alive without antagonizing the president’s camp.

As the 2027 race inches closer, his declaration signals that the Lagos political contest will once again be closely fought.
