Arise TV Correspondent Died by Jumping From Apartment During Robbery, Clarify Police

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, has confirmed that Arise News correspondent, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, died after jumping from the top floor of her Katampe residence during an armed robbery on Monday, September 29, 2025.
According to the police chief, preliminary findings revealed that the journalist attempted to escape the assailants by leaping from the third floor of the three-storey building. She was discovered unconscious after hitting the hard pavement and was immediately rushed to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Reports from vigilante members in the compound indicated that neighbours initially found her in critical condition before emergency help was sought.
CP Adewale stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend those behind the attack and assured residents of heightened security patrols within the FCT.
Maduagwu’s untimely death has drawn widespread reactions from the media industry, with colleagues mourning her as a dedicated professional whose career was cut short under tragic circumstances.
