Nigeria @ 65: Makinde Calls for Unity and Collective Effort in Nation-Building

As Nigeria marked its 65th Independence Anniversary, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has urged Nigerians to put aside differences and work together to build a stronger, more prosperous nation.

In a goodwill message released to commemorate the anniversary, Makinde described October 1 as a day not only for celebration but also for deep reflection on the country’s journey since independence in 1960. He commended Nigerians for their resilience and sacrifices over the years, stressing that the contributions of citizens across all walks of life have kept the nation going despite daunting challenges.

“As we mark Nigeria’s 65th anniversary, we must celebrate the courage and determination of our people. But beyond celebration, we must unite across ethnic, religious, and political divides to ensure our nation realizes its full potential,” Makinde said.

The governor noted that while progress has been made, much still needs to be done to deliver the aspirations of the nation’s founding fathers. He stressed that true development would only be possible when Nigerians collectively embrace unity, fairness, and a shared vision for growth.

Makinde also called on leaders at all levels of government to rededicate themselves to the principles of justice, equity, and service, while urging citizens to continue playing active roles in nation-building.

His remarks echo similar calls from political, traditional, and religious leaders who have used the anniversary to emphasize the importance of unity and national renewal as Nigeria enters another decade of independence.
