Independence Day Cancellation Shows Nigeria Is Hurting, Says Prophet Sam Ojo

Prophet Sam Ojo, General Overseer of the All Nations Evangelical Ministry, has said that the cancellation of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations is a clear indication that the nation is in dire need of healing and unity.
Speaking during a special service on Wednesday, October 1, Prophet Ojo described the decision to suspend the usual festivities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary as a “wake-up call” for both leaders and citizens to reflect on the state of the country.
“This is not just about security challenges or economic hardship. The fact that Nigeria cannot boldly celebrate her Independence Day is a prophetic sign that our nation is sick and requires healing,” he said.
The cleric called on Nigerians to rise above ethnic, religious, and political divisions, stressing that true independence can only be realized when citizens unite to rebuild trust and strengthen institutions.
He further urged leaders at all levels to prioritize the welfare of the people by tackling poverty, unemployment, and insecurity, which he noted were the root causes of despair across the country.
While acknowledging the efforts of the government to address national challenges, Prophet Ojo insisted that “a country that cancels its independence celebration has admitted, knowingly or unknowingly, that there is deep pain in the land that must be addressed.”
He concluded by calling for prayers, sacrifice, and collective responsibility from Nigerians, saying only through unity and moral renewal can the country overcome its trials.
