Stop Hindering Federal Projects in My District, Gbenga Daniel Urges Ogun Govt

Former Ogun State governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has appealed to the state government to desist from blocking the implementation of federal constituency projects within his senatorial district.

Daniel made the call on Saturday during the Midterm Community Assessment Review Tour in Erunwon, Ijebu North-East Local Government Area.

The senator expressed displeasure over what he described as the state government’s resistance to the construction of Paddy Arikawe Road in Sagamu, a project he attracted through federal channels.

He stressed that rather than frustrate such interventions, the government should lend its support to initiatives designed to improve the lives of residents.

“My primary role in the Senate is lawmaking and facilitating the siting of federal projects. Once I secure those projects, the responsibility for contract awards and execution rests with federal agencies, sometimes in partnership with state agencies,” Daniel explained. “What we need from the state government is cooperation, not hostility. Our people must not suffer because of unnecessary political rivalry.”

Daniel recalled that the Paddy Arikawe Road was initially opened and paved with drainage in 2004 during his time as governor, but had suffered neglect until it was recently revived as part of his constituency interventions.

He noted that the upkeep of the road remains the duty of both local and state governments but insisted that leaders must encourage, not discourage, development efforts.

He said the midterm review exercise was designed to evaluate completed projects and ensure that governance remains people-centered, transparent, and accountable.

Reaffirming his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, Daniel pointed to the launch of the BATOGD Movement as evidence of his commitment.

He also commended the president’s policy direction, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, which he said had made more resources available for state and local governments.

The senator further lauded the Federal Government’s decision to take over Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) as a federal institution.

He disclosed that he had already submitted proposals for the establishment of four satellite campuses within 30 kilometers of the main campus at Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode.

According to him, the plan includes a Skill Acquisition Mini-Campus at Okelugbogun, the conversion of GIPI (Oil Engineering Services) at Oni Waterside into a satellite campus, an Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Mini-Campus at Ilisan/Odogbolu, and a Health Sciences Mini-Campus at Ijebu-Ode.

He urged the state government to embrace the initiative, noting that it would expand access to education and accelerate development in Ogun State.
