Troops Arrest Five Suspected Criminals With Concealed AK-47 Rifles in Kwara
Troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted five suspected bandits in Kwara State, recovering six AK-47 rifles that were concealed in their possession.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday at a military checkpoint along Share town in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kwara State, Rafiu Ajakaye, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Friday.
According to him, the arrest came barely 24 hours after another team of security operatives apprehended six suspected couriers of kidnappers around Babanla town, also in Ifelodun LGA.
The suspects were reportedly found with a large consignment of bread and petrol, believed to be supplies intended for criminal hideouts.
Ajakaye commended the troops for their vigilance and swift response, noting that the successful operations underscored the determination of security agencies to rid the state of criminal activities.
He further assured residents of the government’s continued collaboration with security agencies to ensure peace and stability across Kwara, particularly in communities vulnerable to banditry and kidnapping.
“The government will continue to support security agencies with logistics and other resources necessary to protect lives and property.
We also urge members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information that can assist security operatives in their duties,” he stated.
The suspects are currently in military custody and undergoing further interrogation.
