Natasha: Demand Senate Accountability for Allocating Taxpayers’ Funds to Personal Cases,.Says Aisha Yesufu

Human rights advocate Aisha Yesufu has called upon Nigerians to hold all 109 senators responsible for the utilization of legislative time and public resources, particularly when private political conflicts are elevated to national issues.
She criticized the expenditure of taxpayers’ money on what she termed a personal dispute between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Yesufu made this appeal on Wednesday during her appearance as a guest on ‘The Morning Brief,’ a program on Channels Television.
Having attended court sessions on Monday and Tuesday, she found no proceedings related to sexual harassment.
“I just listened to that, the issue of sexual harassment in the court. I am not aware of that. The question we should all be asking is why taxpayers’ money is being wasted on an issue that involves two senators,” she remarked.
Yesufu contended that if the Senate President feels personally maligned, he should initiate a private legal action rather than involving the Senate and federal resources.
“The Senate President should not entangle the Senate in personal disputes; if he has any issues with her, he should address them independently. Why are we involving entire institutions and the state in this matter?” she queried.
Commenting on related legal proceedings, the activist noted that a court had deemed the suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan unconstitutional.
“The judiciary must reclaim its independence to assert, ‘Return to your duties,'” she asserted.
This development follows Senator Natasha’s reinstatement to the National Assembly after a six-month suspension and the reopening of her office on Tuesday.
The senator returned to her office, situated at Suite 2.05 of the Senate wing, with her supporters, shortly after the sergeant-at-arms reopened I’llthe office on Tuesday.
