Attacks on Plateau not Farmer-Herder Clash But Deliberate Act of Destabilisation, Says Mufwang

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has rejected claims that the recent wave of violence in the state is a result of clashes between farmers and herders.

Instead, he attributed the attacks to the deliberate actions of “conflict merchants” seeking to destabilize the region.

Speaking at the Tincity Fashion Week and Arts Exhibition, titled “The Plateau Experience,” in Abuja on Friday night, Governor Mutfwang condemned the deadly attacks that occurred on April 2 in Manguno, Daffo, and Josho communities of Bokkos Local Government Area. The attacks resulted in the loss of several lives and the destruction of homes and property worth millions of naira.

The attacks were carried out by gunmen who stormed the communities, shooting indiscriminately and setting fire to buildings. The victims, mostly women and children, were caught off guard and were unable to defend themselves.

Governor Mutfwang described the violence as “an act of organised crime by malicious elements who do not want peace in Plateau.”

He assured citizens that the government, in collaboration with security agencies wete taking decisive steps to prevent further attacks and ensure lasting peace in the state.

“We will not yield to the agenda of those who seek to cast a shadow of mourning and fear over our state,” the governor said. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Plateau State remains a haven of peace and tranquility for all its citizens.”

The governor’s remarks were echoed by Mr. Chuwang Pwajok, General Manager of the Plateau Tourism Board, who described the state as a “goldmine for tourism and rich in natural and mineral resources.” Pwajok emphasized the need for the government to invest in the tourism industry, which he believes has the potential to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

Miss Christabel Bentu, speaking on behalf of the organizers of the fashion event, praised Governor Mutfwang for his unwavering support for the tourism industry and sustainable development.

“We are grateful for the governor’s commitment to showcasing the beauty and culture of Plateau State,” she said.

The event, which was attended by dignitaries including former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Minister of Women Affairs Pauline Tallen, featured a showcase of Plateau’s rich cultural heritage, including traditional music, dance, and art.

In the meantime, the government has increased security presence in the affected areas and has urged citizens to remain calm and vigilant. The police have also launched an investigation into the attacks and have arrested several suspects in connection with the violence.
