AMAC Chairman’s Aide, Yunusa, Dies Suddenly in Abuja Hotel

The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has been thrown into grief following the sudden death of Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf, who served as the Special Assistant to the Chairman on Community Development. Yusuf, popularly called “Buhun Barkonun Abuja,” reportedly died after collapsing at a hotel in the Karu-Jikwoyi area of the Federal Capital Territory, where he had lodged with a female companion. Sources familiar with the incident said the 47-year-old checked into the hotel on Tuesday, September 8, 2025, in the company of a woman identified simply as Ruth. During his stay, he was said to have refused meals but consumed alcohol heavily. On the morning of his collapse, Ruth, who had become worried about his condition, allegedly purchased an energy drink for him. However, shortly after taking the drink, Yusuf slumped into a coma. Efforts by his companion and hotel staff to revive him proved unsuccessful, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival. The shocking development has since triggered widespread speculation within Abuja and beyond, though security agencies have already launched an investigation to determine the actual cause of his death. Authorities are said to be awaiting medical and toxicology reports before making further disclosures. In a statement issued by the council, AMAC Chairman Christopher Zakka Maikalangu described Yusuf’s death as a great loss to the council and the entire FCT community. He eulogised him as a tireless advocate of grassroots development who was passionate about community service and contributed significantly to bridging the gap between government and residents. The chairman extended condolences to his family and urged members of the public to remember him in prayers. The news of Yusuf’s passing has continued to attract a flood of tributes from colleagues, political associates, and community leaders. Many described him as an approachable and hardworking aide whose legacy in local governance would be remembered for years to come. On social media, however, the tragedy has sparked mixed reactions, with some expressing shock and others raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his final hours. Meanwhile, the family and council authorities have appealed for calm and patience, urging the public to avoid speculation until the ongoing investigation is concluded. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced once consultations with his family are finalised. The sudden death of Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf has left AMAC and its residents in shock, cutting short the life of a man many considered a committed public servant and a strong voice for community development in the Federal Capital Territory.
