NLNG Harnesses AI for Enhanced Efficiency, Safety

Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited has underscored the pivotal role of Artificial Intelligence in revolutionizing its operations, citing significant improvements in efficiency, safety, and productivity across its vast gas infrastructure.

Speaking at the Gastech Exhibition and Conference in Milan, Italy, NLNG Deputy Managing Director Olakunle Osobu highlighted the company’s strategic adoption of AI, driven by the complexity and scale of its operations.

Osobu emphasized that AI integration has been instrumental in guiding operations, enhancing safety, and streamlining decision-making processes. By embedding AI into every facet of its operations, NLNG has achieved remarkable gains in efficiency, agility, and productivity. The company’s commitment to continuous improvement and its zero-incident policy demands intelligent systems that can optimize performance.

A notable breakthrough in workforce training has seen AI and visual technologies reduce the training period for plant operators from 6-12 months to just 2-3 months.

This significant reduction translates to improved productivity and lower costs. AI has also transformed equipment management, enabling machines to function at optimal levels while providing actionable insights that simplify complex decisions.

NLNG’s technology team ensures demand-driven AI deployment, avoiding waste and ensuring cost-effectiveness.

The company is also partnering with Honeywell to conduct a life-extension assessment for critical assets, such as the Main Cryogenic Heat Exchanger, to guarantee safe and reliable operation for the next 10-25 years.

The integration of AI positions NLNG as a leader in smart energy, marking a significant digital leap for Africa’s energy future. This development underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and its role in driving knowledge-based development and global competitiveness.
