Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk, shot Dead at Utah University Event

Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and ally of President Donald Trump, was tragically killed in a targeted attack while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.

Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck and rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident occurred during Kirk’s American Comeback Tour, a series of events scheduled across the country.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with attendees panicking and screaming after the shot was fired. Authorities believe the shooter fired from the roof of a nearby building, approximately 200 yards away from the stage.

Utah’s Department of Public Safety described the attack as “targeted,” but no suspect has been identified or arrested.

Two men were briefly detained and released after questioning, with one individual charged with obstruction.

President Trump announced Kirk’s death on his Truth Social platform, condemning the violence and attributing it to “rhetoric from the radical left.”

Former President Barack Obama also condemned the shooting, stating, “This kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy.” Obama expressed his condolences to Kirk’s family, particularly his wife Erika and their two young children.

Other leaders, including President Trump, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Utah Governor Spencer Cox, echoed Obama’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for civility and an end to political violence.

Kirk was the co-founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative organization focused on youth engagement and activism. His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes, with many praising his dedication to conservative causes and his ability to inspire young people.

President Trump ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in Kirk’s honor.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with the FBI and ATF assisting local authorities. Utah Valley University suspended classes and activities at all campuses until September 15, and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library canceled a planned event with commentator Ben Shapiro.
