Goodluck Jonathan Foundation to Host 2025 Democracy Dialogue in Accra

The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation is set to host its 2025 Democracy Dialogue in Accra, Ghana, on September 17, 2025.

This year’s dialogue promises to be a significant event, bringing together prominent African leaders and global development experts to discuss the challenges and prospects of democratic governance in Africa.

The event will feature Most Rev. Matthew Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the keynote speaker, while Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria, will serve as the chairman. Other distinguished guests expected to attend include John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana; Goodluck Jonathan, former President of Nigeria; Kadré Désiré Ouédraogo, former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso and former President of ECOWAS; and Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, current President of the ECOWAS Commission.

The theme of this year’s dialogue is “Why Democracies Die,” aiming to explore the challenges and prospects of democratic governance in Africa.

The event will provide a platform for participants to discuss the progress and sustainability of democratic rule in the sub-region.

This will be the fourth edition of the dialogue since its inception in 2021, with previous editions focusing on topics such as legitimacy, delivery, and leadership.

The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation has consistently demonstrated its commitment to promoting inclusive governance and peacebuilding in Africa through initiatives like the West African Elders Forum and the Sahel Governance Forum.
