Military Deserves Recognition, Dividends of Democracy, Says Gbajabiamila

The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, has said that members of the Nigerian Armed Forces deserve not only recognition but also a fair share of the dividends of democracy, given their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation.
Gbajabiamila stated this on Friday in Lagos while inaugurating a 1,200-capacity auditorium at Abalti Army Barracks, Surulere. The facility, which he personally facilitated, has been named Bola Tinubu Hall in honour of the President.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Staff noted that the gesture reflects the administration’s commitment to extending democratic benefits to security institutions that play pivotal roles in national stability.
“The military is an integral part of our society. Their duties go beyond defending our territorial integrity; they are now heavily involved in peacekeeping, internal security, and protecting citizens during crises. It is only fitting that they enjoy the dividends of democracy for which they make sacrifices daily,” Gbajabiamila said.
He emphasised that the project was designed to provide a befitting space for gatherings, trainings, and welfare programmes within the barracks community.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the auditorium is part of a series of interventions facilitated by Gbajabiamila to improve the living and working conditions of military personnel and their families.
The move also reflects a growing trend of expanding the definition of “dividends of democracy” beyond basic infrastructure and social amenities to include support for the armed forces, whose roles have shifted from traditional warfare to tackling insurgency, banditry, and civil unrest.
Analysts say the government’s emphasis on military welfare underscores its recognition of the security sector as a cornerstone of national development and civilian stability.
