Ambode Returns, Declares 2027 Governorship Bid, Backs Tinubu’s Re-Election

Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State while pledging full support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
Ambode made the announcement in Badagry during a sensitisation programme on Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration.
He was represented at the event by Dr. Seyi Bamigbade, Director General of the Tinubu-Ambo Support Group.
The former governor urged Lagos residents to take PVC registration seriously, stressing that active participation was crucial to shaping the future of governance.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proven his capacity to lead this country with vision and courage. I call on Lagosians and Nigerians at large to ensure he gets a second term in 2027 so we can all continue to benefit from his progressive leadership,” Ambode said.
On his personal ambition, Ambode noted that he was returning to the race with a renewed vision for Lagos. He promised to consolidate on past achievements while tackling present challenges facing the state.
Dr. Bamigbade explained that the sensitisation campaign was part of efforts to mobilise citizens to play an active role in the democratic process.
“Our message is clear: no PVC, no voting. We believe both President Tinubu and Mr. Ambode represent continuity, progress, and people-focused governance,” he said.
Ambode, who served as governor of Lagos State between 2015 and 2019, was denied a second term after losing the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
His 2027 declaration signals a potential political comeback in the state’s evolving landscape.
