Sokoto Government Shells Out N69.75m, 210 Bags of Rice to Families of Banditry Victims

The Sokoto State Government has rolled out a relief package worth N69.75 million alongside 210 bags of rice to support families affected by recent banditry attacks in Kware and Gwadabawa Local Government Areas.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who led a government delegation on a condolence visit on Friday, described the killings as “unfortunate and inhumane,” stressing that his administration remains committed to restoring peace and security across the state.
Under the arrangement, each family of those killed will receive N2 million and five bags of rice, while survivors with injuries are to be supported with N250,000 and three bags of rice.
According to official figures, the attacks claimed 22 lives and injured four people in Kware, while 11 people were killed and another 11 injured in Gwadabawa.
Governor Aliyu urged the affected communities to remain steadfast despite the tragedy, describing the incident as one “ordained by Almighty Allah,” and assured them that government interventions will continue.
While consoling victims, the governor also cautioned against the role of informants within communities, describing them as “even more dangerous than the bandits themselves.”
He called on traditional and religious leaders to educate residents about the dangers of shielding such collaborators and to encourage prompt reporting to security agencies.
Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Kabir Ibrahim Kware, and House Leader, Bello Idris, both commended the governor’s gesture, noting that the financial and food assistance would bring comfort to grieving and recovering families.
The condolence visit featured a high-powered delegation including Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko; Deputy Governor Idris Muhammed Gobir; Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga; former Deputy Governor, Mukhtar Shagari; APC State Chairman, Isa Saddiq Achida; Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa; and Chief of Staff, Aminu Haliru Dikko, among others.
The attacks in Kware and Gwadabawa represent the latest wave of violence linked to banditry in Sokoto State, where repeated assaults have displaced residents and intensified calls for stronger government-community cooperation.
