Senator Shehu Sani Condemns El-Rufai’s Record as Governor

Senator Shehu Sani has criticized former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of disrespecting the rule of law and freedom of speech during his tenure.
Sani made these remarks in response to El-Rufai’s recent claims and criticisms.
According to Sani, El-Rufai’s administration was marked by a lack of tolerance for dissenting voices. Journalists, including Maida Joseph, Luca Biniat, and Anthony Jacobson, were arrested and prosecuted for writing stories critical of the government. Sani also cited examples of non-journalists, such as Mekwuri, CEO of Chocolate City, who were brought from Lagos and prosecuted in Kaduna.
Sani further alleged that El-Rufai’s administration disregarded court rulings and injunctions. Despite court orders, the administration sacked civil servants and teachers, and refused to pay retired workers.
The senator questioned El-Rufai’s credibility in criticizing others, given his own record of suppressing dissent. Sani also mocked El-Rufai’s claims of predicting future election outcomes, pointing to his inability to deliver results during his tenure as governor.
Sani’s remarks highlight the controversy surrounding El-Rufai’s legacy as governor and his current activities. The criticism underscores the importance of respecting the rule of law and freedom of speech in governance.
