Kaduna Government Gives Final Warning to El-Rufai Over Alleged Destabilisation Moves

The Kaduna State Government on Monday issued what it described as a “final warning” to former governor Nasir El-Rufai, cautioning that it will no longer tolerate actions it believes are aimed at destabilising the state.
The warning, contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Suleiman Shuaibu, followed comments made by Mr. El-Rufai during a television appearance on Sunday, which officials allege could provoke unrest.
“The Kaduna State Government will not sit idly by while individuals, no matter how highly placed, attempt to sow discord and threaten the peace of our state. This is a final warning,” Mr. Shuaibu said.
The government accused the former governor of making inflammatory remarks and of working behind the scenes to manipulate political tensions in the state. It added that any further conduct considered harmful to public order would attract decisive measures.
Political observers say the development highlights a growing rift between the current administration and Mr. El-Rufai, whose influence remains strong among his supporters despite leaving office more than a year ago.
As at the time of filing this report, Mr. El-Rufai had not publicly responded to the Kaduna government’s statement.
