Four Killed as Suspected Armed Herders Attack Benue Community

Barely a week after the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, upgraded the Ayilamo Police Station in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State to a divisional command, suspected armed herders have launched another deadly attack, leaving four people dead and several properties destroyed.

The assault, which took place on Monday, occurred in farmlands and deserted settlements around Tse Mku in Ayilamo, Tombu Council Ward.

A community member, Matthew Nyiyongu, confirmed the incident, explaining that the attackers stormed the area in the early hours, targeting local farmers and vulnerable households.

Another community leader, Joseph Anawah, identified some of the victims as Kaananfam Nyamikume of Tse Jigam village, and Mson, a farmer from neighbouring Guma LGA. He further disclosed that a medicine vendor and one Saaondo Azaye of Tse Azaye village were also killed during the invasion.

Residents expressed fears that the latest incident highlights the worsening insecurity in Logo and surrounding areas, despite recent security measures taken by the police hierarchy.

The attack has deepened concerns over the safety of rural farmers in Benue State, a region often plagued by violent clashes between herders and farming communities.

Local leaders have once again called for urgent intervention from both the state and federal governments to prevent further loss of lives.

As of press time, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the killings.
